Digital asset management versus content management
DAM Cowboy · W38 · September 2026
Bynder's explainer clarifies the boundary: DAM manages files (images, video, PDFs), CMS manages pages and structured text. The distinction blurs when a CMS needs to serve assets at scale, or when a DAM starts embedding editorial workflows. Most organizations need both, connected by integrations that let editors pull approved assets without leaving the CMS. The confusion persists because vendors bundle features across the line, and teams often discover they bought the wrong tool only after they have committed to it.
